In 1999 the long-held vision for Nagaland Christian Residential School (NCRS) was fulfilled when the founders constructed buildings for use as classrooms, dormitories, kitchen, cafeteria, and athletics. In the last twenty-seven years the school’s administrators have designed strategies and resources to provide elementary and high school academic instruction to children/youth from very poor families. NCRS is an English-speaking school whilst the entire student population retains usage of both Hindi and local, tribal languages.

The academic fields of math, science, technology, history, global geography , and literature are taught by capable and caring faculty members and visiting teachers. In 2024, due to an upgrade in academic curriculum and facilities the school adopted a new name, Christian Residential Higher Secondary School (CRHSS).

Because of the consistent financial support of donors CRHSS has been able to provide adequate facilities to the children – computer subject, music, art, hygiene & health instruction, career planning, science lab, sports, etc. Year after year graduates score high on India’s Department of Education Proficiency Tests. Under various articles of the Indian Constitution and the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009 free and compulsory education is provided as a fundamental right to children aged 6 to 14 in India. The approximate ratio of the total number of public schools to private schools in India is 10:3.

The current (June, 2026) student enrollment is three hundred fifty students with one hundred twenty-five designated as hostelers (resident dorm dwellers) and the rest day-students. While walking or driving through the streets of Mokokchung, Nagaland, one sees dozens of uniformed-clad students making the daily trek from the school compound to their homes. Their pleasant, smiling faces brings a sense of joy to onlookers.

Currently, CRHSS, employs twenty-five teachers, five Wardens, and seven working staff (grounds, cooking, maintenance, etc.) plus three Administrators.
